Duda Paiva and Andre Mello receive the Silver Cricket Award for Most Impressive Stage Performance for their work on “Bremer Street Musicians,” a production by Holland Opera. A tremendous honor and recognition for the entire team.
The Jury Report
The jury describes Duda Paiva as “one of the most interesting puppet theater artists in Dutch children’s theater for quite some time.” This year, he demonstrated that in two productions—in addition to his own Little Red Riding Hood in Amazonia, he created the puppets for Town Musicians of Bremen.
Regarding the work, the jury writes: “The design of the puppets and masks is masterful.” The pain of oppression is evident on the animals’ faces, but their vivid colors and distinctive features also highlight their zest for life and their longing for freedom. Andre Mello is responsible for the design and creation of the puppets and masks.
The choreography for the puppets was created by Duda Paiva. The performers’ dance-like movements make the most of the puppets’ potential. The dog’s joy, the cat’s fear, the donkey’s stubbornness—in his choreography, the animals come to life in all their facets and thus effortlessly win the audience’s empathy.
We are proud of this recognition and would like to thank Holland Opera for the wonderful collaboration that made this production possible.
